Description: A meadow grass reaching up to 150 cm in height, panicle spreads out widely toward the flowering season; perennial; flowering season : VI - VIII; high-yielding and very nourishing fodder;
 
Occurence: Widespread and frequent; important and often cultivated meadow plant; up to 1500 m;
 
Related species: Exists in three subspecies: ssp.elatius, by far the most common; ssp. subhirsutum, rare in stone rubble fields or oreal; ssp. bulbosum, occasionally in ruderal places near path sides and along forest edges;
 
Allergy trigger: Pollen, approx. 30 µm;
